RNBS 3315 Professional Development for the RN Course Description

This WEB-based course for registered nurses broadens existing knowledge of the discipline of nursing based on liberal education in the arts and sciences. Emphasis is on professional role expansion through exploration of contemporary nursing issues.

Prerequisite

Admission to the RN-BSN track. May take course prior to completing State Board Exam (NCLEX).

Course Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

1. a) Professionalism:
2. Integrate a foundation from the arts and sciences into professional nursing knowledge. b.   Analyze the roles of the professional nurse in a complex and changing healthcare environment.

1. b) Patient-Centered Care: Integrate skill, knowledge, and attitudes into holistic, evidence-based professional nursing care.
2. c) Evidence-Based Practice (EBP): Explain the use of evidence-based research for best practices.
3. d) Informatics & Technology: Utilize information from available databases for professional writing that addresses nursing practice.
4. e) Quality Improvement: Demonstrate knowledge of healthcare policy, finance, and regulatory environment
5. f) Teamwork and Collaboration: Analyze the role of nurses related to interpersonal care through inter– and intra – professional collaboration.

1. g) Wellness and Prevention: Relate concepts of health promotion maintenance, restoration, and disease prevention to professional practice.
2. h) Leadership: Explain how historical, ethical, and legal foundations of nursing as well as the core values of nursing enhance professionalism.
3. i) Safety: Integrate skill, knowledge, and attitudes into holistic, evidence-based professional nursing care.
4. j) Strengths: Measure how strengths (signature talent themes) influence the role of the student nurse and clinical decision-making

Grading Policy and Criteria

Specific guidelines and grading criteria for all assignments are in the Modules. Final grades for the course will be determined based on the following point assignments:

A – 90-100

B – 80-89

C – 75-79

D – 60-74

F – Below 60

Final course grades less than 75 are not rounded up.

Students will have course grades calculated based on the weighted calculation of exams and other required coursework. The weighted calculation must be 75% or above to pass the course.

Late policy: 5% will be deducted each day an assignment is past due unless prior arrangements have been made with your course faculty. Extenuating circumstances may apply.

Students are expected to contact their instructor before the assignment is due if more time is needed to submit an assignment.
